I think you all remember the illusion with the girl spinning counter clockwise or clockwise. Most of the readers were able to see her spin in both directions. Lots of methods were being shared, but still there were a couple that were unable to see her go both ways.
Well, if you can’t see her spin the other way, then these two images will help you.
Helpful lines were added to these images in order get rid of the illusion and only see her spin one way or another. Therefore, if you can only see her spin clockwise, look at the counter clockwise picture and after 5 seconds look at the original. You will now see her spin ccw.
Here you can see the original lady spin illusion.

I saw it spinning both ways before I finished reading the paragraph. I thought it was a trick…but then I realized the only trick was my mind…

on the counter clockwise lady i can force my brain to see her go the other way. i couldnt do that on the clockwise lady though. wierd

i thought this is very interesting, i saw her spin both ways, i had a frind watching it with me also, and as she was going one way, i was seeing it differently than my friend….which was VERY ODD. but all in all it was very cool.

I saw the lady turn both clock wise and counter clock wise at my pleasure. I could also make her go back and forth without making a full rotation when facing to the front or back. I liked this very much and had a few minuets of fun with it.

For me, to make her spin counterclockwise just look at the bottom of the image, say the reflexion of her foot and then shift your focus upward, like at her calf, and she will start spinning the other way, clockwise. That works for me anyway. It also works if you focus off the image and then catch the motion in your peripheral vision.

  6. Surge768 on February 21, 2008 11:19 pm

I can make her switch direction at will, even to the point of not spinning just a matter of imagination.

  7. kayla on February 22, 2008 11:46 am

i agree, i was able to see her spin both ways when i looked at the very bottom of the image and saw her foot reflection in the middle, its easier, i thought, to see it spinning the opposite way, and then the body seems to follow… this was really awesome!

  8. kayla on February 22, 2008 11:48 am

if you look at the two girl on this page, and focus on one, the one in your periphery will go the same way as the one you are staring at!

  9. Molly on February 22, 2008 5:39 pm

I saw it go one way then the next but had a hard time seeing it spin back the other way again. on all the pictures.

  10. mamaof03 on February 22, 2008 8:17 pm

I was able to see both. If I looked to the right of the screen and saw her out of the corner of my eye that is when the rotation would change. Also by looking at her feet it would change back to clock wise.

  11. donald cohen on February 22, 2008 11:26 pm

I initially saw her spin clockwise. After I read the information, I was able to change her spin direction.

  12. Bern on February 23, 2008 5:37 am

I was able to see her move in both directions. I am not sure what this will accomplish, being able to see this movement. But I feel a bit special just being part of the 14% group

  13. Oystein on February 25, 2008 5:57 pm

At first glance I thought she was spinning clockwise, but I have no problems making her change direction.

But if you look at the shadow or reflection, you will see she’s actually spinning COUNTERCLOCKWISE. If she was spinning clockwise the shadow of the raised foot would move from left to right the half revolution when it’s in view ;)

    is this a joke?
I saw her spinning both ways all the time.
I know I should have been a left-hander, but my school-teacher did not allow me to write with my left hand (1954).so I write with my right hand and do everything else with my left hand.this causes some heavy trouble in my legs and feet, called dominance conflict.

  15. IRK!!! on February 26, 2008 3:53 am

    I’m here with 2 other friends. All 3 of us are able to make it switch directions. {To do it consciously, just close your eyes for a second and reopen.}

Is the probability (14/100)^3 that we are all able to see it spin both ways?

We are all musicians. I’d be willing to bet that musicians and others who use both sides of their brains are more likely to see it spin both directions.

  16. grandma hansen on February 26, 2008 11:51 am

grandpa hansen can only see the lady spinning clockwise.

  17. Meri Kell on February 26, 2008 4:29 pm

When I first saw it, she was going counter clockwise, then, when I started reading, it switched to clockwise. As I read further, she went back and forth between clockwise and counter. If I just look at her and not read, I see both, back and forth, but not both at the same time. After watching for awhile, I could intentionally make her go one way or the other.

BTW, I am left handed. Most left handed people have more bridges between the hemispheres since we are forced to adapt to a right handed world. It may be that the 14% who can view both are left handed since that number roughly corresponds to the percentage of left handed/ambidextrous people. Just a thought…

  18. D on February 26, 2008 8:27 pm

The image does not spin at all for me, either way. She just stands there. So what’s up.
    Thanks

  19. Emma Devost on February 26, 2008 11:41 pm

I saw the image spinning both ways before I even finished reading the instructions. It was a bit distracting. I then noticed every time I took my eyes off the screen and then returned it would spin in the opposite direction. Cool.
I was left-handed as a child but was strongly encouraged to use my right. I then studied art and decided it would be fun to draw with both hands and I was able to do this successfully. As a nurse I often use both hands equally at the same time doing multiple tasks. I also have amazing hand eye coordination.

  20. BassMan on February 29, 2008 8:10 am

OK…I’m a musician - have been for over 30 years. Bass & Guitar so I have to use both hands differently. I am right-handed and play right-handed. I use my right hand for the strub/pick, and left for the more complex tasks of chords and notes, hence my being rather right-brained. For the original illusion, I only see her going Clockwise. For the modified ones above, the CW one, I cannot make her go the other way IF I LOOK AT HER EXCLUSIVELY. If I scroll to see both of her, and focus on the CCW, then when I shift my gaze to the CW one, she DOES also spin CCW.
But for the CCW one, I CAN make her go CW and back again whether I’m looking at both of the images or her (CCW) by herself. There’s something about (1) The fuzziness/persitence of the edges of her left thigh which is slightly different between the two, plus (2) something about a line where her thigh joins he groin which exists in the CCW one that triggers you as to when her hips are facing you.
    Interesting!

  21. Alpha on February 29, 2008 9:00 pm

try using your right eye alone to follow her spin… then try using your left alone. She then changes direction.

I don’t think those statistics are correct. I’ve seen this optical illusion before and shared it with many of my friends, all of which were able to see her spinning in both directions.

And as far as seeing her moving clockwise and your right-brained? I think that’s a little bit of bullshit as well, because it all depends on the angle you’re looking at her and what part of her body you’re watching.

    But that’s just my opinion.

  24. Garrett on March 1, 2008 4:27 pm

I was able to see her spin both ways when I concentrated on her feet.

  25. SchraderBolt on March 1, 2008 10:30 pm

Both me and my friend were able to see her spinning both directions. At first she was spinning counterclockwise, then she was spinning clockwise. At one point I was imagining her going both directions. Cool.

  26. adam kyler on March 3, 2008 7:25 pm

saw it one way, then the other way, and now i can switch it wenever i want to, i can even make it dance by putting 1 foot over the other, then putting it back

  27. Jennifer on March 7, 2008 3:26 pm

I was able to see her spinning both ways in each picture :).

  28. David Purdy on March 9, 2008 1:05 am

I was able to make her spin in both directions at will. 14% ???
    What does this mean?

  29. keith on March 16, 2008 2:32 pm

I can see her change directions at will, but the shadow reveals she is spinning ccw.

  30. Travis on March 24, 2008 2:54 pm

actually, on both pictures i could see her spin both ways. but i’d always see both pictures going the same direction. and when she goes ccw, for some reason i get a headache on the left side of my head…

  31. Camille on April 1, 2008 10:39 am

At first I saw her clockwise, but I was determined to see her go both ways. I looked at her shadow and saw it spinning the other way and when I looked up she was counterclockwise. I stared long enough to watch her switch directions multiple times.

  32. Dane on April 11, 2008 6:36 pm

She spins both ways, depending if you look down or upper left, even in the gray scales. All I do know is that it is very very cold where ever she is.

  33. XGhozt on April 13, 2008 6:35 am

I was actually able to get each foot spinning a different direction at the same time. Very cool.

  34. Atousa on June 1, 2008 9:38 am

    Doesnt she change legs?

  35. Suzanne on June 23, 2008 3:06 am

I can see her spinning in either direction at will. I can also write words in cursive backwards (mirror image). Related? Why, when this was found to be true for certain people didn’t they at least speculate as to why? It would be interesting.

Try to blink with your eyes very fast while you’re watching the animation, until she appear to turn the other way then stop blinking.
Tip: Vary the speed of your blinking.
What happen is that you’ll break the animation by blinking into images, and your brain will try to fill the rest, and when in several images ‘the lady’ appears to turn the opposite way your brain will be convinced of that you will start seeing her turning in the other direction.
